Speech title:  Beyond 5G towards a Super-connected World

Speech abstract:Connected smart objects, platforms and environments have been identified as the next big technology development, enabling significant society changes and economic growth. The entire physical world will be connected to the Internet, referred to as Internet of Things (IoT). The intelligent IoT network for automatic interaction and processing between objects and environments will become an inherent part of areas such as electricity, transportation, industrial control, utilities management, healthcare, water resources management and mining. Wireless networks are one of the key enabling technologies of the IoT. They are likely to be universally used for last mile connectivity due to their flexibility, scalability and cost effectiveness. The attributes and traffic models of IoT networks are essentially different from those of conventional communication systems, which are designed to transmit voice, data and multimedia. IoT access networks face many unique challenges that cannot be addressed by existing network protocols; these include support for a truly massive number of devices, the transmission of huge volumes of data burst in large-scale networks over limited bandwidth, and the ability to accommodate diverse traffic patterns and quality of service (QoS) requirements. Some IoT applications have much stringent latency and reliability requirements which cannot be accommodated by existing wireless networks. Addressing these challenges requires the development of new wireless access technologies, underlying network protocols, signal processing techniques and security protocols. In this talk, I will present the IoT network development, architecture, key challenges, requirements, potential solutions and recent research progress in this area, particularly in 5G and beyond 5G.

Bio: Yonghui Li is now a Professor and Director of Wireless Engineering Laboratory in School of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Sydney. He is the recipient of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship in 2008, ARC Future Fellowship in 2012 and ARC Industry Laureate Fellowship in 2025. He is an IEEE Fellow and Clarivate highly cited researcher. His current research interests are in the area of wireless communications. Professor Li was an editor for IEEE transactions on communications, IEEE transactions on vehicular technology and guest editors for several special issues of IEEE journals, such as IEEE JSAC, IEEE IoT Journals, IEEE Communications Magazine. He received the best paper awards from several conferences. He has published one book, more than 300 papers in premier IEEE journals and more than 200 papers in premier IEEE conferences. His publications have been cited more than 25000 times.

Speech title: Artificial Intelligence for Energy Economics

Speech abstract: Against the backdrop of digital-driven dual-carbon goals and energy system innovation, energy economic big data has become a core support for solving energy supply-demand imbalance, policy implementation deviation, and quantitative evaluation of green economy. Based on the research achievements awarded the Youth Award of Outstanding Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education, this report focuses on key issues of multi-dimensional data mining, intelligent modeling and governance application in the energy economy field. Combined with the integrated scenarios of transportation and energy, this study constructs a fusion analysis framework for multi-source heterogeneous energy economic big data. It addresses technical challenges including energy consumption prediction, accurate carbon efficiency calculation, and coupling correlation analysis of industrial energy economy, and develops quantitative evaluation and dynamic early warning models for new energy systems. This report elaborates the core mechanism of data elements empowering low-carbon energy transition and intelligent optimization of energy economic allocation. It summarizes the application effects of big data technology in policy simulation, industrial low-carbon upgrading and regional collaborative governance, providing theoretical support and intelligent solutions for high-quality green and low-carbon energy development.

Bio: Prof. Dr. habil. -Ing. Hui Liu is a chair professor (Level 2) at Central South University, where he serves as Vice Dean. He earned double PhD degrees from Central South University, China and University of Rostock, Germany, and also holds a German habilitation professorship in robotics. An internationally recognized scholar, he is a Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education. He has been selected for the National Talent Program, the Ministry of Transport's Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talent Program, and Hunan Province's Furong Scholar Program. His honors include the Outstanding International Engineer Prize from the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), the Frontier Engineering Outstanding Young Scholar Award from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Springer Nature China New Development Award. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher and an Elsevier Highly Cited Chinese Researcher. His research spans artificial intelligence, intelligent robotics, big data analytics, and advanced transportation equipment. Previously, he led a junior research group funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. In China, he has directed multiple national key R&D projects and National Natural Science Foundation programs. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, written several English monographs, and holds over 100 China and US, UK, AU, DE and EU invention patents. He has received multiple national and ministerial science and technology awards as the primary investigator..

Bio: Professor Haifeng Li is currently a full Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, and Associate Dean at the School of Artificial Intelligence, Central South University. He holds multiple distinguished academic recognitions, including being a Corresponding Member of the NAAI, an IEEE Senior Member, and a Stanford Top 2% World’s Most-Cited Scientist for four consecutive years (with inclusion in the Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking). He is also an Elsevier China Highly Cited Researcher, recipient of the GIS Innovation Talent award, the Longcheng Talent Program, and the Central South University “321” Talent scheme. Professor Li has published over 140 high-quality SCI-indexed papers in premier journals such as Nature Food, IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TNNLS, ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, IEEE TGRS, IEEE TITS, Environmental Research Letters, IEEE TSMC: Systems, and Remote Sensing of Environment. His works include 4 ESI Hot Papers (top 1‰) and 22 ESI Highly Cited Papers (top 1%). According to Google Scholar, his total citations have surpassed 15,000, with a single paper receiving over 4,100 citations; his annual citation counts have steadily grown from 2,492 (2023) to 3,025 (2024) and 3,652 (2025). He serves as Associate Editor for IEEE J-MASS and IEEE J-STARS, on the Editorial Board of Remote Sensing, and as Guest Lead Editor for special issues in several international journals. He is an active member of the Working Committee on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, the Professional Committee on Intelligent Command and Control Systems Engineering (Chinese Institute of Command and Control), and an Executive Committee member of ACM SIGSPATIAL China. Additionally, he regularly reviews for over 20 leading journals, including IEEE TGRS, ISPRS Journal, IEEE TITS, IEEE TNNLS, and RSE.

Bio: Qiegen Liu, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, recipient of the National Excellent Young Scientist Fund (National Natural Science Foundation of China). IEEE Senior Member, and Executive Dean of the School of Information Engineering, Nanchang University. Professor Liu dedicates his research to system development and algorithmic innovation in intelligent imaging and visual display. He has co-authored over 200 papers in prestigious journals, including Nature sub-journals, IEEE Transactions, and other leading journals in the fields of imaging and visual display. His work has garnered over 6,000 citations on Google Scholar. He has also contributed as an author or co-author to six monographs and textbooks. He serves as a committee member for dozens of domestic and international academic organizations, including IEEE and the Chinese Society for Stereology, and holds editorial board positions for several journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, Journal of Electronics & Information Technology, Acta Photonica Sinica, and CT Theory and Applications.Professor Liu has led more than 30 research projects, including key programs under the National Key R&D Plan, the National Excellent Young Scientist Fund, key joint funds of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key R&D projects of Jiangxi Province, "open-bidding for selective-leading" projects, and industrial collaborations with Huawei. He has received eight scientific and technological awards, including the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of Jiangxi Province, the Second Prize of Natural Science of the China Society of Image and Graphics, and the First Prize of Technological Invention of the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award. Additionally, he has been honored with the Youth Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Society for Stereology and has been listed in the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists, among nearly ten other prestigious recognitions.
